Food and Feed Additives
Food and feed additives are components used to improve product safety and nutritional value. The safety of these additives is as important as their efficacy. This is where
Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) comes into play. Studies conducted within the scope of GLP provide a scientific and systematic assessment of the potential health effects of additives.
What is GLP and Why is it Important?
GLP is a quality system that ensures that toxicological and safety tests performed in the laboratory environment are carried out according to the principles of quality, integrity and reliability. This system
- Guarantees traceability of test data,
- Ensures data production in standards accepted by international regulatory authorities (EFSA, FDA, OECD, etc.),
- Impartially demonstrates the effects of food and feed additives on consumer health.
Today, additives are added to food and animal feeds for many reasons such as extending shelf life and increasing nutritional value. Additives have become the most questioned and researched topic in the food and feed industry.
The effects on human or animal health - especially in terms of consumption of animals fed with feeds containing additives - are important. Additives used in food and feed should be tested within the scope of "Good Laboratory Practices".
Generally on additives;
- Residue Metabolism and Kinetics Study: Investigates drug metabolism and residue depletion in edible tissues of food-producing animals (GLP principles and EMA guidelines apply).
- Residue Depletion Study: Sets withdrawal periods based on residue levels in edible tissues falling below MRLs (GLP principles and EMA guidelines apply.
The Place of GLP Studies in Regulations
Organizations such as the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the OECD require
toxicological data for food and feed additives to be prepared in accordance with GLP standards. This both speeds up product approval processes and facilitates acceptance in the international market.
In our laboratories serving in many parts of Turkey, we provide "Good Laboratory Practices (GLP)" through our solution partners and foreign partners in accordance with the relevant legal regulations and standards. It is carried out on Food and Feed Additives.
