Alcoholic Beverage Analysis: Quality, Content and Safety Assessment

Today, the production and consumption of alcoholic beverages has increased. However, the increase in the prices of alcoholic beverages has also increased the number of cases of smuggled or counterfeit alcohol. In order to prevent these situations, alcoholic beverages must also undergo certain tests and analyzes.

What are the Types of Alcoholic Beverages?

  • Raki An alcoholic drink produced only in Turkey by second distillation of suma or suma mixed with ethyl alcohol of agricultural origin with anise seeds (Pimpinella anisum) in traditional copper retorts of 5000 liters or less.
  • Rum: An alcoholic beverage produced by the use of distillate produced by alcohol fermentation and distillation of sugar cane molasses, sugar cane or syrup obtained from sugar cane juice up to a maximum of 96% by volume and has certain sensory characteristics of rum.
  • Whisky: An alcoholic spirit obtained by sugaring cereal mashes with the diastase enzyme and/or other natural enzymes in the malt content, fermentation with yeast and distillation of the distillate obtained by distillation up to a maximum of 94.8% alcohol by volume in order to have the taste and smell of the raw material used, and matured in wooden barrels with a capacity not exceeding 700 liters for at least three years.
  • Brandy Distilled spirits obtained from the distillation of wine or wine fortified for distillation up to a maximum of 86% by volume or from the distillate produced by the second distillation of wine distillate up to a maximum of 86% by volume.
  • Brandy: A distilled spirit obtained directly from brandy or from blending brandy with wine distillate distilled to a maximum of 94.8% by volume in an amount not exceeding 50% by volume of the final product.
  • Gin: It is a drink with a predominant juniper taste obtained by flavoring sensory appropriate ethyl alcohol of agricultural origin by adding natural and/or nature-identical flavoring substances included in the Turkish Food Codex.
  • Vodka It is a distilled alcoholic beverage obtained by rectification or activated charcoal filtration of the raw material of ethyl alcohol of agricultural origin and subsequent direct distillation or equivalent processes.
