Microwave ovens have become an indispensable part of our lives. They offer an ideal solution for heating or cooking food quickly and practically. However, the safety of the packaging used in microwaves is just as important. This is where the “microwave resistance” test comes into play. This test is designed to determine whether the packaging material deforms when exposed to microwave energy, releasing substances harmful to food.
The EN 15284 standard defines a test method used to assess the performance of food contact packaging materials in microwave ovens. This test examines how much the temperature of the packaging increases when exposed to microwave energy, whether there is a change in its physical properties and whether there is any migration of substances into the food.
Food contact packaging is subject to strict safety standards as it directly affects our health. Regulations in force in the European Union and in our country require that packaging materials do not transmit substances harmful to food and meet certain performance criteria. The microwave oven resistance test is one of these criteria. Packaging specifically designed for use in microwaves must pass this test and be proven safe.
Unsuitable packaging materials used in microwaves can deform, melt or release harmful chemicals into the food when heated. This can adversely affect the quality and safety of the food and even threaten our health. Microwave oven resistance testing is an important tool to minimize these risks and ensure that consumers use safe packaging.
In Nanolab laboratories, we perform microwave oven resistance tests in accordance with EN 15284 standard.
Measurement of temperature increase: How much the temperature of the packaging material increases when exposed to microwave energy is measured with sensitive devices. Observation of physical changes: We examine whether the packaging shows physical changes such as deformation, melting or discoloration. Rest assured about the safety of your microwave packaging!
At Nanolab, we have many years of experience in food safety. With our advanced laboratories and team of experts, we reliably test your packaging for microwave resistance.
