In order to inform the public correctly, it was deemed necessary to make the following statement, after the news about "using carcinogenic food additives in bakery products" in some media organs.

The legal regulation on food additives in our country was regulated by the Food Additives Regulation dated June 30, 2013.

In our country, the use of all additives prohibited in the EU is prohibited within the scope of the regulation prepared in accordance with the European Union. Even though it is allowed in the EU, the use of some additives in certain foods is also prohibited in our country.

The use of substances named E928 (benzoyl peroxide) and E924 (potassium bromate) as food additives in our country and EU countries is prohibited for all foods, including bread and bakery products.

Our Ministry has carried out 513,493 inspections in flour and bakery product production and sales points in the last five years between 21.11.2015 - 21.11.2020, and no negativity has been detected in terms of these substances. ”

What is "Benzoyl Peroxide - Potassium Bromate"? For Which Foods Is It Used For What Purpose?

Benzoyl Peroxide: It is an additive generally used when bleaching flour.

Potassium Bromate: It is an additive mostly used in fermented and fermented products that increases fermentation properties and increases product volume in many bakery products.

It is forbidden to use "Benzoyl Peroxide - Potassium Bromate" in foods, as it has been determined in tests on animals that it has a carcinogenic effect.
