Determination of Glucoronolactone in Energy Drink

Determination of Glucoronolactone

Energy drinks, which are reported to provide mental alertness, increase endurance and energy, and reduce the feeling of fatigue, are preferred by young individuals, especially in intense work tempo. The main components of energy drinks, the consumption of which is increasing day by day, can be listed as caffeine, taurine, inositol, glucoronolactone.

As we mentioned, glucuronolactone is one of the main components of energy drinks and is a compound that occurs naturally in the body during glucose breakdown. Within the scope of "Turkish Food Codex Energy Drinks Communiqué", it is stated that the amount of glucuronolactone in the composition of energy drinks should be 20 mg/L.

As stated in the Turkish Food Codex Energy Drinks Communiqué, “Flavored soft drinks containing caffeine, one or more of taurine, inositol and glucuronolactone in their composition cannot be offered to the market with a food name other than energy drinks.” Due to its phrase, "Determination of Glucoronolactone" is carried out especially in soft drinks. Thus, the presence of glucuronolactone, which should not be used outside of energy drinks, is controlled.

With the "Determination of Glucoronolactone", it can be determined whether energy drinks meet the aforementioned communiqué. You can determine the amount of glucuronolactone in energy drinks or detect the presence of glucuronolactone in soft drinks in accredited and authorized Food Analysis Laboratories.
