Sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) is a powerful oxidizer and an effective disinfectant in many biocidal products. Usually available in liquid form, it is widely used in surface disinfectants, water treatment products and general cleaning agents. Accurate determination of the sodium hypochlorite content is essential to ensure the microbial efficacy of the product and to guarantee regulatory compliance.
Determination analyses are performed to determine whether sodium hypochlorite, the active ingredient in biocidal products, is present in the correct proportion. Thanks to these analyzes:
The most common method for determining sodium hypochlorite is iotometric titration. This method analyzes the reaction between hypochlorite ions and iodide ions.
In Turkey, the analysis of the active ingredients of biocidal products is conducted under the supervision of Turkish Ministry of Health, Turkish Medicines and Medical Devices Agency (TİTCK). At the same time, the analyzes are performed in accordance with TS EN 901, EPA, and OECD test standards. It is a legal obligation to perform these analyzes in authorized laboratories.
Determination of sodium hypochlorite in biocidal products is not only a legal obligation but also the basis of user safety and product quality. It is of great importance that manufacturers and importers work with laboratories specialized in this field and obtain reliable analysis reports. With the correct determination, both consumers are protected and brands gain confidence in the long term.
