Within the scope of Turkish Food Codex Supplementary Foods Communiqué; The conditions for the production, preparation, processing, storage, transportation and sale of food supplements are specified.

Supplementary foods within the scope of the aforementioned communiqué “In order to supplement normal nutrition, nutritional elements such as vitamins, minerals, proteins, carbohydrates, fiber, fatty acids, amino acids or other substances of plant, vegetable and animal origin, bioactive substances that have nutritional or physiological effects. Products of which the daily intake dose is determined by preparing the concentrates or extracts of and similar substances alone or in the form of capsules, tablets, lozenges, disposable powder packages, liquid ampoules, dropper bottles and other similar liquid or powder forms.

The vitamins, minerals and limits that can be found in supplements must meet the conditions specified in the communiqué annexes. Vitamins and minerals must be used in the forms specified in the regulation ANNEX-2.

Supplementary foods sold in different forms such as tablets, capsules, liquid forms, chewing gum, powder in the market; If consumed unconsciously, it may cause excess vitamin accumulation in the body. Vitamin deficiency is also a danger. For example, excess vitamin K consumption can reduce the blood's ability to clot. Vitamin C and E supplements can reduce the effectiveness of chemotherapy.
