Formaldehyde Analysis in Biocidal Products

Formaldehyde is a reactive chemical used in many products and harmful to human health. It is especially used in disinfectant products due to its lethal effect on insects and many microorganisms.

Formaldehyde is used in many areas other than disinfectants. however, it has serious harm for human health. People who are exposed to high doses of formaldehyde are more likely to get cancer. Studies have revealed that formaldehyde, which has a carcinogenic effect, has harmful effects on respiratory, nervous and digestive systems.

Product types in which formaldehyde can be used are stated as follows in the List of Substances Defined in Annex-A Product Type within the scope of the "Biocidal Products Regulation".

- Product Type 1: Human hygiene
- Product Type 2: Disinfectants and algicides not intended to be applied directly to humans or animals
- Product Type 3: Animal hygiene
- Product Type 4: Food and feed field
- Product type 5: Drinking water
- Product Type 6: Preserving products during storage. - Product Type 9: Fiber, leather, rubber and polymerized material preservatives
- Product Type 11: Preservatives for liquid coolant and processing systems
- Product Type 12: Slimicides
- Product Type 13: Preservatives for processing or cutting fluids
- Product Type 20: Control of other vertebrates
- Product Type 22: Mummification and taxidermy fluids
