GB/T 9832: Sewed plush and cloth toys
Requirements for Sewn Plush and Fabric Toys under the Chinese Standard
This standard sets out requirements and test methods to ensure that plush and fabric toys produced for children are safe, healthy and of good quality. Plush and fabric toys are among the most common and popular toys that children play with. However, it is essential that certain quality and safety requirements are met to ensure the safety of these toys.
Scope of GB / T 9832 Standard
GB/T 9832 specifically regulates the safety and quality of plush and fabric toys. The scope of this standard includes the following elements:
- Material Safety: The materials used in the production of plush and fabric toys must not contain harmful chemicals. The standard ensures that the fabrics and fillings used are of a quality that will not harm the health of children.
- Physical Safety: The physical properties of toys are also of great importance. Especially the eyes, buttons and small parts of plush toys may carry elements that may pose a choking hazard for children. GB/T 9832 ensures that the physical structures of toys are safe and designed to prevent hazards.
- Stitching and Construction Quality: Plush and fabric toys are often manufactured with stitched structures. Therefore, the seams need to be strong and the parts of the toys should not come apart easily. The standard stipulates that the seams of toys must be durable and meet the requirements for safe use.
- Fire Safety: Fabric and plush toys must be resistant to fire in the environment in which they are used. In particular, toys to be used in children's rooms or beds are prohibited to be made of flammable materials. GB/T 9832 requires the use of fire resistant materials for such toys.
- Age Group Appropriateness: The design of plush and fabric toys should be appropriate for different age groups. This is important to ensure that toys do not contain small parts or injure children. GB/T 9832 also includes criteria for suitability for age groups.
The GB/T 9832 standard covers plush and fabric toys and test methods. This standard applies to major textile fabrics containing various fillers, including toys, clothing and non-clothing toys. Compliance with the GB/T 9832 standard is required for China Compulsory Certifications (CCC), a mandatory safety mark for designated products, including toys sold in the Chinese market.
