Listeria monocytogenes is a type of pathogenic bacteria that causes listeriosis infection. It is a facultative anaerobic bacterium, able to survive in the presence or absence of oxygen. It is a foodborne pathogen, it can be fatal at a rate of 20-30% in the weakened immune system.
ISO 11290 standard, — Covers the test method for the detection of L. monocytogenes and the detection of Listeria spp. (including L. monocytogenes). It is the preferred test method for "Searching for Listeria monocytogenes" on products intended for human consumption and animal nutrition, and environmental samples in food production and food processing.
Within the scope of ISO 11290 standard, Listeria monocytogenes is defined as; microorganisms that form typical colonies on solid selective media and display the morphological, physiological and biochemical characteristics described when tests are performed in accordance with this document.
