RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) is a regulation set by the European Union that limits the use of hazardous substances. RoHS, which stands for “Restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment”, was adopted by the European Parliament in 2003 and entered into force in 2006.
This regulation limits the use of certain hazardous chemicals to protect human health and the environment. The regulation, originally known as RoHS 1, has been updated over time and expanded as RoHS 2 and RoHS 3.
A RoHS compliant product is a product that does not contain the specified hazardous substances or contains them below the permitted limits. The main substances restricted under the Regulation are:
