Biocidal products; 4 main groups are classified into 22 product types. The first main group is the “Disinfectants” group.
Disinfectants in private, public or industrial areas; It is used for disinfection of air, swimming pools, aquariums, bath water, surfaces, materials, equipment and furniture.
It is used for disinfection of equipment, containers, consumables, surfaces and pipes used for the production, transportation, storage or consumption of food, feed or beverages (including drinking water) for humans and animals.
Common active biocidal agents in disinfectants are isopropanol, n-propanol, ethanol, and quaternary (Latin quaternarius = four each) ammonium compounds.
Skin irritation from improper use of disinfectants
Disinfectants should always be used according to the information in the user manual. Misuse can lead to the development of resistance in target organisms. The customary use of disinfectants in private areas can also cause skin damage.
Product types in biocidal products main group 1:
| Product Type 1 Biocidal Product Analysis (Human hygiene) | The products in this group are biocidal products used for human hygiene, applied to the human skin or scalp with the primary purpose of disinfecting the skin or scalp, or applied in contact. |
| Product Type 2 Biocidal Product Analysis (Disinfectants and algaecides not intended for direct application to humans or animals) | Disinfectants and algaecides not intended for direct application to humans or animals - Used to disinfect surfaces, materials, equipment and furniture that are not in direct contact with food and feed. Uses include, inter alia, swimming pools, aquariums, bathing and other waters; They are used in air conditioning systems and disinfection of walls and floors in private, public and industrial spaces and other areas for professional activities. It is used for disinfection of air, water not used for human or animal consumption, chemical environments, wastewater, hospital wastes and soil. It is used as an algaecide in the treatment of swimming pools, aquariums and other waters and in the remedial treatment of construction materials. It is used to be incorporated into textiles, tissue paper, masks, paints and other articles or materials to produce treated articles with disinfecting properties. |
| Product Type 3 Biocidal Product Analysis (Veterinary Hygiene) | It is used for disinfectants, disinfectant soaps, oral or body hygiene products or veterinary hygiene tools such as with antimicrobial function. It is used to disinfect materials and surfaces related to the housing or transportation of animals. |
| Product Type 4 Biocidal Product Analysis (Food and feed field) | It is used for disinfection of equipment, containers, consumables, surfaces or pipes related to the production, transport, storage or consumption of food or feed (including drinking water) for humans and animals. It is used to impregnate materials that may come into contact with food. |
| Product Type 5 Biocidal Product Analysis (Drinking Water) | It is used for disinfection of drinking water for both humans and animals. |
