Main Group 4: Analysis and Safety Assessment of Other Biocidal Products

Main Group 4: Other Biocidal Products

The Main Group 4 classification of biocidal products includes biocidal products intended for more general use. This group covers the analysis and safety assessment of products used to protect human and environmental health. The suitability, efficacy and safety of these products, which fall outside product groups such as cleaners, disinfectants, preservatives or pest control, are assessed through both laboratory and field tests.

Biocidal products are classified into 4 main categories:

  • Main group 1: Disinfectants
  • Main group 2: Protectors
  • Main group 3: Pest Control
  • Main group 4: Other Biocidal Products

What are the Product Types in Main Group 4 of Biocidal Products?

Product Type 21 Biocidal Product Analysis (Toxic products) It is used to control the growth and settlement of contaminated organisms (germs and higher forms of plant or animal species) on ships, aquaculture equipment or other structures used in water.
Product Type 22 Biocidal Product Analysis (Mummification and taxidermy fluids) It is used for disinfection and protection of human or animal corpses or parts thereof.

Analysis Methods

The efficacy and safety assessment of Core Group 4 products is carried out by various laboratory tests and methods. Featured analysis methods:

Efficacy Tests

  • Microbial Control Analysis: The effect of the product on microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi and yeasts is tested.
  • Long Term Protection Tests: Evaluates how long the product is effective on surfaces or in the application area.
  • Biofilm Analysis: Its effectiveness in preventing the accumulation of microorganisms on surfaces is tested.

Chemical Composition Analysis

  • Active Substance Determination: The correct concentration of biologically active substances in the product is measured.
  • Toxic Residue Analysis: After use, it is checked whether the residues in the environment are within safety limits.

Safety Tests

  • Dermal and Ophthalmic Irritation Tests: Possible irritation risks in case of contact with human skin and eyes are examined.
  • Acute and Chronic Toxicity Tests: Short and long-term toxic effects of the product are evaluated.
  • Ecotoxicology Tests: The environmental effects of the product, especially on water resources and soil, are analyzed.
