If we were to define a cosmetic product, it refers to all substances or mixtures prepared for application to the outer parts of the human body; epidermis, nails, hair, lips, and external genital organs, or the teeth and oral mucosa, with the sole or main purpose of cleansing, perfuming, changing their appearance, protecting them, keeping them in good condition, or correcting body odors.
We conduct microbiological analyses on cosmetic products accreditedly. These analyses are detailed below.
• Aerobic Mesophilic Bacteria Count
• Mold - Yeast Count
• Pseudomonas aeruginosa Search
• Candida albicans Search
• Escherichia coli Search
• Staphylococcus aureus Search
These analyses are conducted to determine the microbiological risk of a cosmetic product type. Microbiological analyses provide information and insight into factors such as the type of users of cosmetic products, application areas, possible changes in products, and the ability of microorganisms to cause disease.
As different skin areas may have different sensitivities, two separate categories, "Category 1" and "Category 2," have been defined for microbiological analyses of cosmetic products.
Category 1 includes products intended for children under 3 years of age, products applied to the eye area, products applied to mucous membranes, non-rinsed products, while Category 2 includes other products, rinsed products. Different limit values apply for both categories.
Quantitative limits:
Category 1: The total viable aerobic mesophilic microorganism count (bacteria, yeast, and mold) should not exceed 102 CFU/g or 102 CFU/ml.
Category 2: The total viable aerobic mesophilic microorganism count (bacteria, yeast, and mold) should not exceed 103 CFU/g or 103 CFU/ml.
Qualitative limits:
Category 1: Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Candida albicans, or Escherichia coli should not be present.
Category 2: Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Candida albicans, or Escherichia coli should not be present.
