Murine norovirus (MNV) is a type of virus with a positively sensitive RNA genome. Murine norovirus is closely related to the infectious human norovirus that causes gastroenteritis and was isolated in 2003 and is known to be a sporadic, lethal pathogen for laboratory mice.
Murine Norovirus serves as the most suitable model used to discover the infection mechanisms of the human norovirus. For this reason, it is tested together with Poliovirus Type 1, Adenovirus Type 5, Bacteriophages, Vaccinia Virus within the scope of effectiveness tests especially in Biocidal products.
Noroviruses effective in humans cause gastroenteritis epidemics that have caused many endemic cases worldwide. Noroviruses are viruses that affect most people at different ages and can easily spread in crowded environments such as public transport, schools, hospitals.
Noroviruses are considered to be Class B biological agents due to their high stability, rapid epidemic and debilitating properties of the disease. This virus is mostly transmitted through the mouth and feces. Generally, it can be transmitted through person-to-person contact, contaminated water, contaminated food.
There are many precautions to be taken because of the easy spread of the norovirus. First of all, we should avoid crowded environments as much as we can. Afterwards, measures such as frequent hand washing and using various hand and surface disinfectants can be taken. Of course, food should be washed before consumption because it can be contaminated with food. The consumed water should be tested at regular intervals and reliable brands should be preferred for drinking water.
