Cosmetic products now have a big place in our lives. But the important issue is that cosmetic products contain many chemicals and the effects of these chemicals on human skin over time are not known by consumers.

Especially recently, the terms natural and organic have started to take place in every sector. “Cosmetics Sector” is one of these sectors.

The products that have attracted the most attention in the cosmetics sector in recent years are natural and organic cosmetic products.

So what is the difference between natural and organic products?

Within the scope of the “Guideline on Natural and Organic Cosmetic Ingredient and Product Claims” prepared by the Turkish Medicines and Medical Devices Agency, natural cosmetic products and organic cosmetic products are defined as follows:

Natural cosmetic products can be defined as cosmetic products where at least 95 percent of the composition is natural, and which prove that this content meets the requirements of being natural, but does not have to be organic.

Organic / Ecological cosmetic products; It can be expressed as a finished cosmetic product consisting of at least 95% by weight of organic / ecological cosmetic ingredients obtained by organic production, using raw materials produced in accordance with the principles of organic farming activities, proving that it meets the requirements of being organic from raw material to finished product.

As can be seen from the definition, natural and organic cosmetic products are different from each other.

In addition, some documents are required for cosmetic products to be offered for sale as “Natural” or “Organic”. This is stated in the guideline as “In order to use ‘organic’ or ‘natural’ declarations for cosmetic products, images related to them or expressions and forms implying them; label, packaging, written, verbal, visual, etc. In order to use in promotions, manufacturers must have documents proving that they meet the requirements of these statements.”

Within the scope of the Guideline, the % values of natural - organic components that must be present in cosmetic products are specified.
