Why Are Extra Body (In - Vitro) Cytotoxicity Tests Performed?

Outside the Body (In - Vitro) Cytotoxicity Tests

Cytotoxicity test is one of the biological evaluation and screening tests that use in vitro tissue cells to observe cell growth, proliferation and morphological effects with medical devices.

Cytotoxicity is preferred as a pilot project test and as an important indicator in the toxicity assessment of medical devices that are simple, fast, highly sensitive and capable of protecting animals from toxicity.

Medical devices must pass rigorous testing to determine their mechanical, physical and chemical properties or biological compatibility when in contact with the body.

A new medical device must pass tests for cytotoxicity, sensitivity, intradermal irritation, acute systemic toxicity, biocompatibility before entering a clinical environment to ensure safe and effective use for humans. Since these devices are in direct contact with the tissues and cells of the body, they must not only need good physical and chemical properties, but also have good biocompatibility.

Among the biocompatibility tests, cytotoxicity is preferred as a pilot project test and as an important indicator in the evaluation of simple, fast and highly sensitive medical devices.

Cytotoxicity is one of the most important methods for biological evaluation, as it has a number of advantages with preferred and mandatory substances.
