Velocity Determination of Flue Gas with S Type Pitot Tube

The pitot tube, which is used to measure the velocity of the flue gas, is placed in the duct with the tip facing the air flow, and the positive port of the manometer is connected to the total pressure port and the negative port is connected to the static pressure port. The manometer displays the velocity pressure, which can then be converted to velocity.

Pitot tubes are very suitable equipment for medium and high speed airflow measurement. It is considered the standard against which all other airflow devices are compared. It requires accurate measurement, density correction and careful movement during use.

Accuracy is determined by the pressure gauge attached to the pitot tube, and there are often more economical ways to measure airflow in low flow applications. For high flow or high temperature applications, the pitot tube appears ideal. Pitot tube measures total pressure and static pressure to determine air velocity pressure.

In modern pitot tubes, the proper nose or tip design is such that it minimizes turbulence and interference. S type pitot tube is produced by welding two hollow metal pipes of the same shape to each other.
